Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
The RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a process
by which adults wishing to convert to Catholicism or wishing to complete their
Christian Initiation can learn about the Catholic faith, receive the Sacraments
of Initiation, and enter full communion with the Church. Any adult wishing to
learn more about the Catholic faith or to share their faith with others is
welcomed to participate.
The first phase of the process is the Inquiry phase.
This is a less formal time of questioning and exploring your calling to the
Church. For more information contact
Jim and Kay Schopf at (209) 835-6854. An interview
with
Father Hung Nguyen is also
required
(209) 835-4560, Ext 112.
The second phase of the process is the Catechesis
phase. This is a more formal time of faith sharing, scripture study, and
doctrine study intended to prepare the participants for initiation. For more
information contact
Jim and Kay Schopf at (209) 835-6854.
The third phase is the Purification and Enlightenment
phase. This begins in Lent when those who have prepared join with the whole
Church in the Lenten process of conversion. At the end of Lent, during the
Easter Vigil, the Sacraments of Initiation will be received.
Finally the fourth phase is the Mystagogy phase.
In this phase the new Catholics or Neophytes explore their callings to service
as adult, initiated Christians and become more fully integrated into the
community of faith. Formal sessions for this phase continue through Pentecost.
It is an exciting and rewarding experience to learn and share your
faith with others who have felt a call to a deeper, more active faith life.
